Art history can so often be seen as dead, flat, and dull. Even though the artworks may be exciting and challenging, a painting on a wall is not always enough to capture our attention.

In a video from 1926 that has been reposted to YouTube, we get the chance to watch painter Wassily Kandisnky work. Although the results of the artist’s work may be familiar to us, our understanding of the shapes and forms that he commonly used is changed when we see the precision and confidence of his mark making.

Also notable—he wears a suit and bow-tie while painting!
