The Lego Super Star Destroyer is made of over 3,000 pieces. It’s over four feet long, and weighs over eight pounds. You can’t even buy the model anymore officially, although you can find them on Amazon for around $900.

Wired built one. And then they dropped it. And filmed the ensuing carnage at 1,000 frames per second. The result is an amazing, and oddly brutal, look at how a giant LEGO model explodes.

What’s fun about the video is that the model looks damned close to how you’d imagine the real thing blowing up, completely with beautiful moments where huge chunks of the ship break free. The model itself is massive, but it looks even bigger when filmed in slow motion. Combine that with the final real-time shots and you have a beautiful way to celebrate Star Wars day.
